CANTUS Network Conference Graz 2017

We would like to invite you to attend in the academic conference “CANTUS Network – Libri ordinarii of the Ecclesiastical Province of Salzburg”, which will take place in Graz from Wednesday, 6 September to Saturday, 9 September 2017. The conference will be held by Institute 6 – Church Music and Organ of the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz and the Institute for History of Art and Music of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

This international conference will deal with research on medieval liturgical rule books. These Librii ordinarii are excellent sources using which medieval lifeworlds can be reconstructed; accordingly, they are of great significance not only for liturgics and musicology, but for historians of other academic disciplines as well.

The conference will start on Wednesday evening with an opening ceremony and a keynote speech. On Thursday and Friday there will be papers by the 30 scholars presenting, discussion forums and a presentation of the “CANTUS Network” project. On Friday evening there will be a concert in Graz Cathedral: the “Grazer Choralschola” will perform chants from the investigated manuscripts. On Saturday, a trip to the Augustinian monastery Vorau is scheduled, where we will be able to admire the many medieval musical and liturgical manuscripts in the monastery library.

Participation is free of charge (no conference fee), but participants must register in advance (rklugseder@gmx.at).

Organization: Franz Karl Praßl and Robert Klugseder
