Troubadour Melodies Database

This site contains transcriptions for the extant troubadour melodies. Each melody appears as it is found in its manuscript, including all of the melodies for each text. The database will be fully searchable for notes, note patterns, and will also allow searches by contour on the Melody Search page....

  • I wondered about the very limited choice in genre, but it is due to a very limited number of manuscripts and a very limited quality of certain reproductions, for instance:

    A-Wn 2563

It seems they "digitised" an unreadable readerprint of a microfilm. The melodic reconstruction must be guess work.

But it could be worse! See the accessibility of reproductions concerning the manuscript collection of the Biblioteca ambrosiana in Milan. They run no risk that these manuscripts will be properly researched during the next years.

    Che tristezza!
