Anyone else having any trouble using the Meinrad font in OS Mavericks and Pages '09 version 4.3? Suggestions for fixing the problem would be very welcome!

The font turned out to be, well, no idea where it was, but I couldn't find it. Weird. So I installed it again (using Fontbook, but I'll look for alteratives). Seems to be working fine now. I'm quite relieved :-)

Hi Marianne,
I know "fontbook". :) I am using a Mac too. But there are some more useful applications for fontmanaging instead of "fontbook". Reinstalling CAN be the answer. Deleting the Font-Caches another. :) Of cause you have to look first, if the font is still awailable in Library=>Fonts
good luck anywhere.

Hi Martin, on a Mac the fontmanager is sort of built-in. But it seems that essentially you're right - the font has to be reinstalled before it works properly on the new OS. Thanks.

Hi Marianne, I dont use the font … but you should try to delet the fontcaches.
Do you use any font-managing software, like Linotype Fontexplorer or Fontcase? Most of this have a function do clear the cache. Otherwise you hav to use the terminal. Start the "Terminal" an than type the following:
atsutil databases -removeUser
atsutil server -shutdown
atsutil server -ping
Good luck!

Thanks Jonas. I was not aware of the need to reinstall. I've tried and failed, because somehow fontbook doesn't seem to list the StMeinrad fonts – I'm sure I'll be able to sort that out though, somehow :-)

Hallo, you need once more to reinstall the StMeinrad fonts and it will work without any problems. This is usual procedure after upgrading to any new version of OS X.
Best regards
Jonas

Thanks for the tip, Geert. I'll have a thorough look at Lilypond, see if I like it.

Maybe Lilypond is the future here: cross-platform, open source and freeware.
You enter your music in plain text, and the editor makes a perfect (engraved) score in the format you want.
First read the introduction and essay at LilyPond
Then have a look at LilyPond v2.12 Typesetting Gregorian Chant
