In this recording you can experience Lykourgos Angelopoulos as Isokratis and field researcher at Mount Athos. His recording of Dionysios Firfiris who sings the kalophonic Triadika of the Polyeleos according to a realisation by Theodoros Phokaeos in the echos plagios tetartos, was made in 1982.

Dionysios Firfiris was born on a peninsula next to Athos (Chalkidiki) in 1912 and he died in 1990. He was one of the most important chanters of the Athonite tradition and thanks to Lykourgos Angelopoulos and Manolis Hatzegiakoumes his art has been documented by many recordings. Like Thrasyvoulos Stanitsas he belongs to an older generation of traditional singers of Orthodox Chant which has its roots in the 18th century. His intonation does not follow the interpretation of psaltic art by Chrysanthos and his New Method.
