We should found a series of regular concerts/festival for (sacred) Ars antiqua in Paris: The choir of St. Denis and the Sainte Chapelle would be quite fitting places for concerts with sacred polyphony of the (French) Ars antiqua as well as for plainchant from (French) sources of the same period. Especially interesting would be to approach such concerts with performers who really endeavour to try out the performance practice informations (including for plainchant!) which we still have in such sources as Anonymous IV, Garlandia ...

Audio/video files of concerts could be placed on the website of such a concert series for all interested people who cannot be there in person. And the best concerts could be produced as CD/DVDs.

    Dear Paul van Nevel - your ensemble is one of the best for polyphony of the second half of the 15th and early 16th century, but I do not think that it is for Ars antiqua. What would be needed is an entirely male ensemble of at least 4 singers (very clear voices of course), (medieval) French pronunciation, and the possibility to expand the ensemble with other men's voices and/or boys/"boyish" sopranos in order to sing chant. To hear (French) Ars antiqua sacred music with such an ensemble in these beautiful historical buildings must be quite an "uplifting" experience - all the more so if the musicians endeavour to come close to the performance practice which is implied in various notational and theoretical sources (ornamentation etc.).

  • l'ensemble Huelgas is ready (with the flores aperti, subiti, vinnola vox etc...) to perform in Paris, but there is a lot of interest, but no money...
