Klara Evlogieva Mechkova joined the academic staff of St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo on 1 September 1985. Her research has been in the field of Byzantine music. She is the author of the monograph 'The Eight-Tone System of Byzantine Music in Theoretical Sources. Tetraphony' (ABAGAR, 2009). Her area of research interest is in medieval music studies (Byzantine music studies, musical paleography, Old-Bulgarian music studies).
