Examples of the eight modes on a record are a familiar exercise. In 1936 the monks of St. Benoit du Lac made a single 25cm disc containing one antiphon in each of the 8 modes. In 1952 Roger Wagner recorded "8 introits in 8 modes" (the title of the disc) on a 25cm LP. In 1989 Dominique Vellard recorded "Les Tons de la Musique" on CD with a total of 16 examples. In 2000 Juan Carlos Asensio recorded "Octoechos Latino" with 24 examples on a CD. This Argentan LP of 1970 (not on CD) is part of this evolution. Notice that it groups chants into the four maneria rather than the eight modes. The Polish abbey of Tyniec has begun to issue a full CD devoted to each mode. The series is titled "Barwy Choralu" and the first three discs (modes 1 to 3) have already been issued. All of these are listed in my database.
