From the sixth to eighth centuries plague epidemics and wars prevailed in Europe, North Africa and Byzantium. Almost half of the population was killed and culture was hard to find. Chant is one of those extraordinary legacies that survived the Dark Ages.
On Saturday, June 21 Gregoriana sings chant taken from Psalm 92. All kinds of genres are on the program. Rarely performed are two beautiful offertories with all original solo verses. Never performed is the Mozarabic chant of the Iberian Peninsula. It is commonly considered lost forever. Gregoriana is committed to rediscover this tradition singing computer aided reconstructions. Every month a newly restored chant is performed.
Alternating with the chants will be read in a traditional way (recitation) from the sixth-century Byzantine historian Procopius of Caesarea.

The Gregorian Meditation (concert spirituel) is always the outcome of a project in which the singing of chant from the earliest manuscripts is central. Those interested (m/f) can apply for a project.
