Dear friends, colleagues and students,

From 9 to 13 October 2017, I will be co-teaching in an intensive musical seminar to be held at the Fondazione Cini in Venice. The focus of the seminar will be the early 14th century Roman de Fauvel as found in the magnificently notated and illuminated manuscript Paris BNF fr. 146 (completed ca. 1317-18). Organized by the foundation’s early music director, Pedro Memelsdorff, this meeting will be open to young performers of medieval music who wish to deepen their knowledge of the music from this unique source (please see the attached description). Pedro has also invited the distinguished musicologists Margaret Bent (Oxford University) and Anna Zayaruznaya (Yale University) to participate, so we can count on a very thought-provoking and fascinating encounter with this music in all its forms.

A limited number of participants will be selected during the summer (note that the deadline for application is 10 July 2017). Generous scholarship aid is available to all participants, as well as travel assistance. Please consult the foundation website for details:

If you have questions about the seminar, you can contact the foundation directly. Please forward this information to any of your colleagues or students who might be interested in attending this unique meeting.

Wit best wishes,

Ben Bagby
