Giacomo Pirani holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of Pavia, Department of Musicology and Cultural heritage. His doctoral research concerns the life and works of the theoretician Johannes Gallicus (+1473). Among his other interests are the relationship between musicography and Humanism, and the 15th and 16th century translations of the Greek music treatises. He currently serves as a digital humanist within the ERC project LAUDARE. The Italian Lauda: Disseminating Poetry and Concepts Through Melody (12th-16th centuries), based at the University of Trento.
