Lukas Matousek replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion King David with an aerophone? in Medieval and Renaissance wind instruments
"Dear Manuel,
David is depicted also with other wind instrument. Clothed in linen ephod, he plays buisine before arch, as is written in II.Sam. 6/14,15: “Porro David erat accinctus ephod lineo. Et David et omnis domus Israel ducebant arcam Domini in…"

Olivier Féraud replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion King David with an aerophone? in Medieval and Renaissance wind instruments
"Dears,
in the last picture, he also carry a hurdy-gurdy! I think that, together with the recorder (the harp being a proper David's attribute), these intruments have to be considered as attributs of a minstrel's status...
The association three-holes…"

Jean-Noël Catrice replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion King David with an aerophone? in Medieval and Renaissance wind instruments
"hello Manuel,

thank you for this picture.
David is playing a 3 holes flute. I am surprised that, with his right hand, he plays  a little bell
instead of a drum. Somebody has an explanation ?

I wonder if  the use of a flute would just mean that…"

Manuel Tizón replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Music and lyrics in Medieval Polyphony 1440-1600
"Thank you Christian, I will get the book. I am having difficulties in finding specific bibliography in this area.

Best wishes,

Manuel"

Christian Berger replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Music and lyrics in Medieval Polyphony 1440-1600
"I formulated some points in my book Hexachord, Mensur und Textstruktur. Studien zum französischen Lied im 14. Jahrhundert ( = Beihefte zum Archiv für Musikwissenschaft 35), Stuttgart 1992, p. 57-84 with a discussion of the literature. You can find…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Ricossa,
It is key that the Laon episematic virga / tractulus used for one pitch syllables has its alternative in a punctum being used for one pitch syllables, and that there is a similar pairing of alternatives in Einsiedeln with the virga and…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Ricossa,
Despite Mr Weber's claims - however he chooses to phrase them - regarding R John Blackley, I remember Nick Sandon once commenting in a lecture that "in a way, we are all proportionalists now".  Oscar Mascarenas certainly used to teach…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes

I note that there is no forthcoming substantiation on your part of the statements of yours about me which I have drawn attention to, and that there is no forthcoming clarification on your part of the points I have requested clarification…"

Jerome F. Weber replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Codona, "precisely the same thing" is not at all the case. Proportionalists interpret the same medieval theorists and draw diametrically opposite conclusions, as Apel pointed out in 1958. Semiologists interpret the pitches of the neumes…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Ricossa,
Thank you for that link.  I always find it curious for various semiologists to be offering various interpretations of the same chants in performance and then criticising proportionalists for variously doing precisely the same thing.…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Weber,
I would remain unaltered in my view that geocentrism is a valid point to raise as an example in connection with any possible issue of intellectual isolation.  It seems to me an obvious historical example to illustrate the point. You seem…"

Jerome F. Weber replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"The irrelevant point you made was the reference to geocentrism.
Blackley's poor scholarship is evident in his singing of the Sanctus X in proportional rhythm; that chant did not exist in the period he is discussing and purportedly recording from…"

Alasdair Codona replied to Manuel Tizón's discussion Paper Blackley in Mensuralistes
"Mr Weber, in your last message, you wrote the following.
"I did not write "intellectual isolation" "
"You put words in my mouth".
I reject your assertion that I have put words in your mouth as I did not write stating that you wrote the…"
