Gillian Lander replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion When ebay destroyed the unity of 5 fragments c11th of the missal from Northern Italy in Neumes et paléographie
"Has any library, or group of libraries, museums, universities worldwide taken Ebay to task over this? All sorts of historic monuments and artifacts are for sale there. Fine for collectors of antiquities but destructive overall."

Gillian Lander commented on Gunilla BJÖRKVALL's blog post New book - Liturgical Sequences in Medieval Manuscript
"Dear Gunilla, I wonder if we might email each other soon. I am working on a 15th century antiphonal in which there is an apparently new sequence. Maybe it is not new ! My email gjlander@orcon.net.nz"

"Wonderful that Vatican manuscripts are now being digitised."

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Ars nova et Ars subtilior
"The real person behind all this is a young Chinese man, Edward Guo, owner of the company Petrucci LLC.
Besides pirating copies of medieval manuscripts, and also Carl Parrish's Notation of Medieval Music, "Feduol" is a Brazilian (Fernando Duale de…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Répertoire des manuscrits médiévaux notés
"Dear Julia,
Yes, this discussion has generated more heat than light. No point in musicologists discussing the finer points of law. Its all beside the point anyway. Can you please email me direct - gjlander@orcon.net.nz. I am a senior citizen with…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Répertoire des manuscrits médiévaux notés
"Ah, I was looking for a general link on the homepage. So each work has a separate PDF made, which will be nowhere near as fine as DIAMM, and a cheeky link there to DIAMM. The uploader Feduol I see is "out" on Facebook. However the real power behind…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Répertoire des manuscrits médiévaux notés
"It appears the DIAMM link has gone from the IMSLP site, but I have gleaned the following from their website. We are up against a 27 year old smartee with an agenda. It may take the combined might of Oxford, Utrecht et al libraries/universities to…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Ars nova et Ars subtilior
"Thank you. I am not a regular user of that site. The subversive in me is thinking of some sabotage of IMSLP - a scholarly protest or signed petition on Academia.edu or Avaaz that might short cut the legal mess that could erupt.. Olivier Berten a…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Répertoire des manuscrits médiévaux notés
"Julia, I now note that the images for NL-Uu406 are no longer available via DIAMM, though the links are still there, so I suggest that a list be made of those libraries that have already withdrawn images to illustrate the damage already done to the…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Ars nova et Ars subtilior
"A bargaining quid pro quo might be links to DIAMM from the IMSLP site and vice versa."

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Ars nova et Ars subtilior
"This looks like something lawyers need to negotiate - alas. The copyright infringed of course is that of the individual libraries doing the digitisation.  J Craig-McFeely a dit :
But how? IMSLP won't even respond to my messages informing them of…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Ars nova et Ars subtilior
"Yes, there are images, for instance of Utrecht 406, accessable on DIAMM. Utrecht University Library was the imagemaker, and they own the copyright and can (and do) give permissions. DIAMM is just a resource and linking tool, but they are right to be…"

Gillian Lander replied to J Craig-McFeely's discussion Copyright infringement in Répertoire des manuscrits médiévaux notés
"There are clearly issues to be worked out between DIAMM and IMSLP. It is pointless duplication to carry DIAMM images on IMSLP and clearly some form of copyright has been infringed - probably that of the digital image-maker. I hardly think the…"

Gillian Lander replied to Félix Ferrà's discussion Aramaic melody conserved in Syria
"I can only assert ther claim of some years back that they were singing St Ephrem as unbroken tradition. Who knows how time may have altered the melodies.  My concern at the time (c 2003) was addition of the rock rhythm backing...."
