author of numerous studies on European cultural history in Antiquity and the Middle Ages, including The Ordinary Chants of the Byzantine Mass (Hamburg, 1975) and Singers in Byzantine and Late Slavonic Painting (Leiden, 1986). With C. Floros he has published Introduction to Early Medieval Notation (Warren, Mich., 2005) and The Origins of Russian Music – Introduction to the Kondakarian Notation (Frankfurt, 2009) and Origins of Western Notation (Frankfurt, 2011).

  • nice to hear of your forthcoming paper. It's always a good thing to remember people of the existence of the τόνοι μέσοι. Many modal analysis are wrong because this reality is not taken into account
