In this period my researches mainly concern: a) liturgical chant by oral tradition in Ambrosian area: we are finding and recording (on mountains and countryside villages of the Milanese diocesys) ) the last singers singing the "popular" liturgical chant; they sing Ambrosian melodies, "cantus fractus" pieces, devotional songs etc., always adapted to the typical singing style of the Alpin and Lombard region (for example by improvising a second voice by 3ds etc.); there are beautiful psalm tones, beautiful Magnificat, very interesting arrangements of Ambrosian melodies close to versions that we find in late manuscripts... (and w are finding also a lot of late Ambrosian manuscripts never catalogued); this music is almost all transmittend by oral tradition only: these are the very last years to record the last last witnesses (nothing has been done in the past, unfortunatly); b) the renowal of music theory in 11th century in relationship with these period's hystory... but this is complicate to describe now; c) a last work has nothing to do with Middle Age, but I tell you that I have found a lot a documents regarding the musical life of my town in 19th cent. giving us the "photograph" of the musical "system" of a "secondary" town at that time. Very interesting.

Angelo Rusconi replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion Hymnaire italien du XIIIème siècle - Rythme libre, rythme mesurée in Mensuralistes
"I agree. In some late Ambrosian mss I have found notational features representing (maybe) an intermediate stage between non-mensural and mensural notation of some hymns."

Angelo Rusconi replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion Hymnaire italien du XIIIème siècle - Rythme libre, rythme mesurée in Mensuralistes
"Exactly! The ms probably comes from Central Italy, I think"

"(indication of rhytm and expression: rare in the Ambrosian notation, of course)"

Angelo Rusconi replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion Hymnaire italien du XIIIème siècle - Rythme libre, rythme mesurée in Mensuralistes
"Only two short remarks:
a) maybe we do not have to think to only one solution for an entire repertory: each piece (hymn, chanson, lauda…) has a special history, so some hymns could have been  born and sung "mensurally", others not. Of course, we…"

Angelo Rusconi replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion Unpublished manuscript containing the scolica enchiriadis and various musical treatises (Auction) in Thesaurus musicarum
"Manoscritto davvero molto bello. Grazie della preziosa segnalazione.
Segnalo che la cantilena Alme rector (foto C) proviene dall'Epistola ad Michaelem di Guido d'Arezzo; al contrario, il pezzo seguente (Omnibus ecce modis...) è più prudente…"

Angelo Rusconi replied to Etienne STOFFEL's discussion Dominican hymn - Te lucis in Cantus Ordinis Praedicatorum (Chant dominicain)
"This "mix" from three hymns (The lucis + Aeterne rerum conditor + Memento salutis auctor) appears with the same text and melody in the Dominican antiphonary published in 1933, so I cannot understand how the text can be attributed to XXI century: it…"

Angelo Rusconi replied to fra Innocent Smith, o.p.'s discussion Low B-flat in Cantus Ordinis Praedicatorum (Chant dominicain)
"Thank you to Franz Prassl for his answer. As I told, the b flat is perfectly right in the quoted examples . In any case, Guido suggests a transposition, and this confirms the b-flat !"

Angelo Rusconi replied to fra Innocent Smith, o.p.'s discussion Low B-flat in Cantus Ordinis Praedicatorum (Chant dominicain)
"If the the problem is essentially theoretical (as it is), I think that the b flat, in these two pieces, could be accepted in a practical edition without problems, right?"

Angelo Rusconi replied to Dominique Gatté's discussion Computus - versus cum neumis in Neumes et paléographie
"Some of these pieces have not a simple "mnemothecnical" melody: they seem compositions, sometimes quite elaborate. Is it not surprising?"
